Roots, Shoots, and Style

Have you ever stopped to think about where your clothing comes from? We’re not just talking about the store it’s sold in, or the place where it’s made. Take it back - way back, back to its roots. Literal roots. Roots, and shoots, to be exact.
Bamboo clothing is all the rage in our wardrobes today, and for good reason!
Here’s five things you probably didn’t know about bamboo, and one you most definitely did!
- Bamboo Trees are impressively sustainable. Bamboo can grow up to three feet in just 24 hours, making it the fastest growing plant on the planet. Compare that to the 180 days it takes to grow cotton, and you’re probably already appreciating the magic that is Bamboo.
- Bamboo requires very little irrigation, no fertilizers, and no pesticides, making it an incredibly eco-friendly plant to grow. The discarded leaves of the bamboo are all the plant needs for nutrients to grow. It is self-composting, and completely biodegradable. Saving the earth, one raglan at a time.
- Bamboo releases 30% more oxygen into the atmosphere, and absorbs more carbon dioxide than other plants. Breathe easy, your favourite leggings once decreased greenhouse gases. If that doesn’t help you sleep at night, we don’t know what will!
- Bamboo isn’t just a favourite snack for panda bears! It is also a staple in Asian cuisine, often eaten in salads or soups. It’s also used in traditional folk medicine to treat infections and speed up healing in wounds! It looks good, and tastes good - what more could you ask for?
- If it’s not being used in your clothing, bamboo is also used in the construction of floors, furniture, walls, skateboards, and all kinds of other things. Why? Because bamboo has a stronger structure than steel. That’s right. Steel. It’s edible, strong, saves the environment, and makes amazing clothing. What can’t bamboo do?!
- It’s where we get Rayon - that glorious fabric that makes your clothing. Rayon is soft, comfortable, and hangs perfectly, which we know you already knew. But maybe the most important, and desired feature of bamboo clothing? It’s machine washable. Because #momlife.
